The Magic of Loy Krathong

May you be free of your worries and blessed with luck!

In a nutshell (or, more accurately, a coconut shell), the Loy Krathong festival is one of Thailand's most enchanting celebrations. Held each November, it honours the water goddess Phra Mae Khongkha and expresses gratitude for the life-giving power of water. After sunset, people gather along rivers, lakes, and canals to release Krathongs - small, thoughtfully decorated floats often crafted from banana leaves or a coconut shell, adorned with flowers, candles, and incense sticks onto the water. Each Krathong carries gratitude and respect for Phra Mae Khongkha, along with a request for forgiveness, a release of past negativity, and a personal wish for luck, happiness, and good fortune in the future.

Let’s take a closer look at the goddess behind Thailand’s waters. Read on!
